PIOTR SZAJNER

Head of the Department of Agricultural Markets and Quantitative Methods, Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute

A graduate of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Agriculture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), holding a PhD in Economics.

Currently serves as the Head of the Market Research Department at the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute (IAFE-NRI).

He has led multiple research projects, including:

  • “Monitoring agri-food markets under changing economic conditions” (as part of the Multiannual Program 2011-2014).
  • “Evolution and prospects of agri-food markets” (as part of the Multiannual Program 2015-2019).

In 2009, he was an academic expert for The High-Level Expert Group on Milk at the European Commission.

He collaborates with the Austrian Society of Agricultural Economics and the Swiss Society for Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. Additionally, he is an expert at the Food Price Experts Forum of the National Bank of Poland (NBP).

Research Interests:

  • Market economics and the evolution of market structures in the food economy.
  • Market research in the agri-food sector’s marketing chain.
  • Analysis of foreign trade in agri-food products in the context of international competitiveness.
  • Price volatility and price transmission in the marketing chain.
  • Agricultural policy, particularly market policy and trade regulations.
